Overview

Blood Red Parrot Cichlids were originally a hybrid from a Midas Cichlid and a Redhead Cichlid, but now many different variations exist. The body of the fish is quite round and their most characteristic feature is their beak-like mouth which they usually cannot fully close. They also have relatively large eyes. As older juveniles and adults they are orange or red in color.

They should be housed in a sufficiently large tank with good filtration, and given plenty of hiding places and rockwork to feel secure. They are quite peaceful and can be much more shy than other cichlids, making them prone to bullying if housed with more aggressive cichlids.

Blood Red Parrot Cichlids should be fed an omnivorous diet and will eat most anything that is offered to them, whether it be pellet, flake, live or frozen food. There are also specialized diets for them on the market that take their oddly shaped mouth into consideration.
