Overview
This 'Double Red' variant of Apistogramma has been line bred to increase red coloration in the fins. The body is light tan with a thick black horizontal stripe running along the side, and the large dorsal fin runs the length of the body. The tail is somewhat spade shaped.
They will prefer a planted tank with plenty of swimming space but also with areas to hide in. They should be kept on a fine substrate. Males are territorial and should not be kept with other males, but they can be housed in a pair. They should be kept only with similar sized fish also of a similar temperament.
Carnivores by nature, they should be given plenty of meaty foods and offered a varied diet. Live, frozen or freeze dried bloodworms or tubifex are ideal, as well as high quality flake, pellet food and other live or frozen foods.
