Overview
The Brichardi Cichlid is also commonly called the Fairy Cichlid or the Lyretail Cichlid as a reference to its long, beautifully flowing fins. The body is silvery or cream in color and the fins have hues of light blue. One thick stripe runs from the eye to the gills, and there is a yellow spot directly above it.
They will do well in an aquarium with plenty of hiding places and a fine substrate so that they can engage in their natural digging behavior. Since they are a schooling fish, they are best kept in a group and can live in a species only tank or in a cichlid community tank with other fish that will not nip at their fins. They may become territorial during spawning and pair off during this time.
They should be fed specialized cichlid pellets, meaty frozen and live foods, and high quality flake foods and other pellets for omnivores.
