Overview
The Mertensii Butterflyfish, also simply known as the Mertens Butterflyfish, is a light silver color with a pearlescent sheen and black chevron markings along its body. The chevron stripes have a slightly blurred, criss-cross appearance. The posterior and tail is a striking almost yellow orange. It has a black stripe through its eye.
It will appreciate ample swimming space and hiding places. A peaceful species, it can be housed with other butterflies provided that they are introduced at the same time, and can cohabitate with a variety of other tankmates. It may nip at invertebrates within a reef setting. It's diet should be mostly meaty with some herbivorous preparations as well.
