Overview
The Flame Anthias is also commonly called the Ignitus Anthias, referring to their species name. Their coloring gives them their name; a vibrant orange body with a yellow underside that varies in intensity depending on whether it is male or female, and bright red fins.
It should be kept in a tank with open swimming space and numerous places to hide within the live rock. It will do well in a reef setting and won't bother corals or invertebrates. It can be kept with peaceful community fish and in a group with it's own kind.
Like all anthias, Flame Anthias are hermaphrodites. They all hatch as females and then the most dominant female within a group becomes the male, and if the male dies, he is replaced. It should be fed frozen meaty foods and may eventually come to accept flake preparations. Live food should also be offered. It needs to be fed small meals multiple times a day.
