Overview

The Checkerboard Wrasse, also called the Marble Wrasse, goes through many color and pattern changes throughout it's life. As a juvenile, it's body is a light silver with black spots and patches. By the time it reaches adulthood, it has gradually developed a black checkerboard pattern from which it gets it's common name. The fins are yellow and the face varies from grey blue to light olive green with orange stripes. The eyes vary from yellow to a brilliant red. 

Like other wrasses, it should be kept in a lidded aquarium since it may try to jump out. It is reef safe and a great community fish and can be kept with other peaceful wrasses, even members of it's own species. It should have sand substrate deep enough for it to hide in if it gets spooked. It will eat worms and snails, protecting the corals and other invertebrates within a reef aquarium. It's main diet should consist of various types of shrimp both frozen and in flake or pellet form.
